Trade Engraving Company was formed in 1948 by William Rich (the current owner’s late Grandfather). The business began as a manufacturer of genuine engraved stationery and social announcements. The name Trade was chosen because the majority of sales are wholesale to the printing trade. As the premier engraver in the Salt Lake City area, Trade employed a staff of master engravers who helped the company earn a reputation as a manufacturer of the highest quality engraving and embossing available.

In the late 60’s Trade was the first Utah company to expand into foil stamping. Trade’s first foil stamping press was a converted Kluge letterpress. Today Trade has 10 different state-of-the-art foil stamping presses with capacity to automatically run sheet sizes up to 28”X 40”.

In the 70’s Trade bought a Hamada offset printing press and a Thermotype thermography tunnel in order to offer a less expensive option to genuine engraving. The presses have been updated since then and the thermography is still offered to those looking for a cheaper alternative to genuine engraving.

In the 80’s Trade once again expanded its capabilities by offering more new services. This time it was large-sheet die cutting combined with automated folding and gluing. This allowed Trade to produce products such as pocket folders, video sleeves, and CD wallets.

The 90’s brought many upgrades in equipment which took advantage of new technologies to increase output speeds as well as quality. Trade also invested close to a million dollars in a high speed large-format foil stamper; all this in an effort to cater to the needs of the printing trade.

As part of a continuing strategy to offer as many finishing services to the printing trade as possible, Trade began the new millennium by making one of its boldest expansion moves yet, the installation of top-of-the-line UV Coating equipment. In order to do it right, Trade purchased the best Swiss-made Coating machine in the world, the Steinemann Colibri , and hired seasoned UV Coating experts with over 20 years of combined experience.

Today, Trade continues to concentrate on maintaining its long-held reputation for the highest quality, while offering personal and professional service. As for the future expansion and growth, only time will tell what new product or service will be offered to better serve the printing trade.
